Most people agree that the iPhone 16 is truly a great device, except for one thing: its internal storage is limited to just 128 GB.
The iPhone 16 starts with 128 GB of storage, even on the most expensive iPhone 16 Pro model. Unless you're someone who only needs the device for basic tasks without installing many apps or taking lots of photos and videos, this option isn't ideal for everyone.
The writer's personal experience dates back four years when they purchased an iPhone 11 with 128 GB of storage to save money while still meeting basic needs (the iPhone 11 had a 64 GB base option). That decision made sense at the time and remains reasonable for the iPhone 16 and similar models.
However, as the digital world has evolved, buying an iPhone with 128 GB of internal storage is becoming increasingly frustrating. Once the storage fills up, users can’t download new apps, take more photos, record videos, or even update the software. People no longer view the iPhone as just a basic device; it’s used to browse social media content and run apps like TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, where digital content continuously expands.
There have been users who have urged Apple to drop the 128 GB model and reduce the price for the 256 GB option. Apple might do this at some point, but not because of public demand. If that were the case, they would have done it already. Apple will only make this move when it financially benefits the company. For now, as long as people are still purchasing 128 GB iPhones, Apple sees no reason to increase the base storage.
So, which one should you buy? That decision still depends on the user. This is a simple calculation, even though the answer may not always be clear. Apple knows they need to sell a certain number of phones at a specific price, and they know the production costs for each model. That’s why the 128 GB option for the iPhone 16 continues to exist, even though it's a storage capacity many users overlook.
